Derrick Lamont Grays was born August 30, 1972, in Jacksonville, Ark., to Gwendolyn Hatchett and the late Melvin Grays. Derrick passed away on February 11th, 2023 in San Diego, Calif.
Derrick graduated from Arkansas Baptist (GED program), then attended Philander Smith College. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed at the Pentagon and relocated to San Diego, Calif., for Navy SEAL training. He was first stationed on Lake Champlain.
Derrick was honorably discharged in 2010. He continued his education by receiving his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from ITT Technical Institute.
Derrick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 25 years, Loraine Grays; mother, Gwendolyn Hatchett; sister, Tia Williams; nieces, Tamia and Zekia; nephews, Xavier and Isaiah; aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins and friends.
The memorial service for Derrick will be held at New Dora Baptist Church at 317 Jamison Ave., North Little Rock, Ark. 72117, on March 11th, 2023, at 11 a.m.
