Paul Lawrence Blackmon – 1938-2021

Paul Lawrence Blackmon, Sr., was born in Brinkley, Ark., on July 2, 1938, to Mildred and George Blackmon. The family moved to Little Rock when Paul was very young. Paul’s father, George Blackmon was a minister and was one of the founders and subsequent pastor of the Union AME Church on Wright Avenue where he served for many years. Mildred Blackmon was active with the Mothers Ministry at Union and she also worked for the Little Rock School District in the Food Services area for approximately 50 years.
As a result of the marriage of Mildred and George, six children were born: B.C., Pauline, Maxine, Wayne, Georgia, and Paul Blackmon. All of Paul’s siblings preceded him in death.

Paul was employed as a truck driver for approximately 20 years for Missouri Pacific Truck Lines. After leaving that employment and until his retirement, Paul became an independent truck driver.

Paul married Minnie Worthy and to this union seven children were born, three of whom preceded him in death: Deborah Blackmon, Kenneth Blackmon and Lonnie Blackmon. Later, Paul married Daisy Austin and a son, Damon Dewayne Blackmon, was born from this union.

After a prolonged illness Paul transitioned from this life on July 5, 2021, at the Amberwood Rehabilitation Center in Benton, Ark.

Paul leaves cherished memories of his life to four sons, Larry (Sheila) Blackmon, Paul Blackmon, Jr., Ronald Blackmon, and Damon Blackmon; one daughter, Pamela (Anthony) King; a host of grandchildren; great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Walk-through viewing, Friday, July 9, 2021, 12 noon to 4:30 p.m., Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home Chapel, 1200 Chester Street, Little Rock, Ark. Masks are required and social spacing is observed. The family visitation will be 6 p.m.-7 p.m.
Funeral service will be Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 11 a.m. Both services to be held at the funeral home chapel. Burial follows at Rest In Peace Cemetery, Hwy 58 at I-530, Exit 15, Hensley.
