Sylvia Smith Zeigler, 82, of Little Rock, Ark., died surrounded by family on November 3, 2022, in Plano, Texas. She was born February 8, 1940, in Little Rock, Ark., to the late Blanche Elliott Smith and William Harrison Smith. She was the youngest of four children. Zeigler graduated in May, 1961, from AM&N College, Pine Bluff, Ark., with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Later, she obtained a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis on reading from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Ark., in August 1984. She was certified as a reading specialist. Zeigler served the Little Rock School District for over 30 years as an educator and certified reading specialist for grades K-12 until her retirement in June 1992.
Throughout her life, Zeigler participated in numerous activities and organizations including The Art Porter Singers, Beta Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid reader and obtained her greatest joy when studying the Bible and the Word of God.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Zeigler-Petty (Tony); a grandson, Dr. Blake Heath; Mary Kathryn Elliott Lee; cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dr. Joe Elliott Smith, and William Harrison Smith, Jr.; sister, Jacqueline Smith Thomas; mother, Blanche Elliott Smith, and father, William Harrison Smith.

Interment: Immediately following funeral service, Haven of Rest Cemetery, 7102 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72204.
