Juanita Strickland – 1928-2025

JUANITA MILLER STRICKLAND, was born on Wednesday, November 28, 1928 to the late Marshall Lee Andrew and Bessie Lee Miller in North Little Rock, Ark. She departed this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joy Lee Strickland, brother Arther Lee Miller, and stepdaughter Mary Carolyn Robinson.

She graduated from Dunbar Trade School in Chicago, III on Friday, July 19th, 1946, with a diploma in ‘Office Practice’. She moved back to Arkansas where she married Joy Lee and reluctantly learned to enjoy riding on the back of his motorcycles. She was an employee of Alden Mail Order, Majestic Laundry, Timex, with CareLink being her final employer.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Joyce Ann Strickland; son, Paul L. Strickland; 5 grandchildren, Jason Robinson, Joel Robinson, Shalisha A. Strickland, Candace T. Burkhalter, and Jimmy L. Bryant III; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Charles Stricklen (Nicole), Mark Stricklen (Alice), Sister-in-law, Lisa Stricklen; first cousins Bennie J. Donley and Bobby J. Dozier.

She had a special place in her heart for children and loved those who others may have found challenging to love. In her later years, she enjoyed doing simple crafts, word puzzles, and talking to friends and relatives on the telephone. She loved planting flowers, and excited to see them bloom. She shared her story of growing up in Chicago with everyone. She resided with her son in North Little Rock where she peacefully transitioned.

Visitation: Thursday, January 30, 2025, 12-4:40 p.m., Ruffin & Jarrett Chapel. Family hour is 4:30-6:00, Ruffin & Jarrett Chapel. Memorial service is Friday, January 31, 2025, 11 a.m., Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
